Ipswich Town have identified Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley as the man they want to succeed Mick McCarthy, a source close to the club has confirmed to Football League World.

The 39-year-old has enjoyed a whirlwind few years since taking the reins at Lincoln in May 2016, and has guided the Imps to promotion to the English Football League, an FA Cup quarter final and very recently winning the Checkatrade Trophy.

Cowley is receiving admiring glances from teams higher up the football pyramid for the quick success he has achieved at Lincoln, and sources close to the club have confirmed to FLW that the Tractorboys are pinpointing their interest Cowley's way.

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy is leaving the club in the summer after six years at the helm, and the search for a successor has been underway since the announcement was made.

It is not certain yet whether Cowley will be tempted to switch Lincoln for Ipswich just yet, with the Imps in the midst of a push for promotion to League One.
