Middlesbrough surprised many earlier this month when they announced the arrival of midfielder Jon Obi Mikel.

A player that has won the greatest honours in the game, it should be some coup for Tony Pulis providing he settles in quickly.

We caught up with EFL on Quest pundit Ian Holloway to catch his thoughts, then, to see what he made of the move:

"I know Tony really well and I know he wants to have two outstanding sitters in front of that backline.

"He needs someone that can block out attacks, break up things, start new attacks and he likes experience so really could he have got himself a better midfield player from anywhere else? Probably not.

"I always like players on the way up rather than on the way down but that's something that Middlesbrough can afford to not always abide by.

"I know some might get bored of Tony's playing style but I think if we all played the same way it would get really boring.

"He's an outstanding player and he could reshape the end of their season he's that good."
