Exclusive: Ian Holloway praises Sunderland and issues message to supporters

Sunderland got themselves into the EFL Trophy final last week at the expense of Bristol Rovers and will face Portsmouth later this month.

A great chance at silverware for the club, this has been a far more positive season than the ones of late for the Wearside outfit.

That in mind, then, what does EFL on Quest pundit Ian Holloway make of it all?

He told us exclusively that it’s what the fans deserve:

“I’ve been surprised how they’ve bounced back from losing Josh Maja because that was a big thing and it was a great bit of business getting Will Grigg in.

“I thought they might struggle after losing Maja but they’ve got a game in hand and are just outside the top two and they’ve not missed him.

“It’s about time for their supporters who are a special group and so I’ll forgive them for beating my lot (Bristol Rovers.)

“I think their fans deserve it and hopefully it’ll be a change in their fortunes and get them back on the way up.”
