Ian Harte believes that Kiko Casilla could still have a future at Leeds United despite being found guilty of racism.

The 33-year-old was charged after claims of racially-aggravated abuse towards Jonathan Leko were found to be true on the balance of probability.

Casilla has vehemently denied the claims, however the Whites have since confirmed that they acknowledge the charges and released a statement on the matter on their official website.

The goalkeeper was handed an eight-match ban and a substantial fine - not to mention having his character questioned by those both inside and out of Elland Road.

Since then Illan Meslier has stepped up to first team level and has been hugely impressive for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

The 20-year-old has kept back-to-back clean sheets for Leeds in the clashes with Hull City and Huddersfield Town, meaning that it's not out of the question that he might keep the gloves once Casilla returns from his ban.

But despite being found guilty, Harte believes that there could be a way back for the Spaniard once Leeds have undertaken the disciplinary measures that they deem to be fit.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Harte said: “I don’t see why he won’t play for the club again.

“The young goalkeeper who’s in at the moment is a very, very talented keeper and it’s a difficult situation for the club.

“The frustrating thing has been how long it has dragged out from when it happened to only getting resolved a week-or-so ago.

“I’m sure Leeds will be dealing with it themselves behind-closed-doors to decide how to take it forward.

“He’ll be disciplined, he’ll probably be heavily fined as well.

“It’s not good but all that we can do is focus on the positives and that’s that Leeds are doing well.”
