Southampton's on loan Gillingham man Thomas O'Connor is attracting the interest of a host of Championship clubs, a source close to the club has exclusively confirmed to Football League World.

The Irish ace joined Steve Evans' Kent-based side in the summer transfer window from Premier League outfit Southampton as he looked to earn more first-team experience.

He's managed to do that, too, making several appearances in League One so far for the Gills and notching a goal, too, though it's the defensive works of his game that have stood out most of all.

He's featured most recently and left-back and left wing-back for Steve Evans' side in the last few weeks and a source close to the club has told Football League World that his performances have impressed.

Indeed, not only are parent club Southampton thought to be pleased with the displays he has put on this season, a number of unnamed Championship clubs are also monitoring him right now.

The Verdict

O'Connor is a player that is making real use of this first-team opportunity he has been given at the Gills and it looks as though clubs are taking note.

Whilst parent club Southampton are watching on with interest, a number of second-tier clubs are also taking a look.

He could well have a decision to make in the relatively near future, then, though first and foremost he'll be wanting to play more games for the Gills, where he is thought to be enjoying his spell right now.
