Gillingham goalkeeper Joe Walsh is the subject of wide transfer interest which includes from two unnamed German clubs, sources close to the player have confirmed to Football League World.
The 17-year-old has entered into the first-team fold at the Priestfield Stadium to start three of the Gills’ EFL Trophy matches this term, and it appears as though his impressive breakthrough has not gone unnoticed by possible suitors.
Walsh may have been playing second fiddle to Jack Bonham in Gillingham’s League One matches this season, but the fact he has merely been involved with Steve Evans’ side at such a young age is testament to his rapid development.
Sources have confirmed that a number of clubs have been monitoring Walsh, with two German sides having been to watch the goalkeeper of late, and it is believed this could see the battle for his signature start well before the January transfer window opens.
Gillingham are currently sitting 16th in the League One table following a challenging start to the season, while they have recently seen their EFL Trophy campaign come to and end which could potentially limit Walsh’s first-team playing time going forward.
