Former Norwich City and West Ham United striker Dean Ashton believes that Steve Bruce needs to add more firepower to his Sheffield Wednesday side.

Ashton also praised the work that Bruce's assistant Steve Agnew has done in his absence, saying that he has managed to solve the Owls' defensive issues.

"I'm sure he will be looking to try and bring in more players.

"He's [Agnew] stopped the flow of goals being conceded, he's made them harder to beat and I think they're all positives for Steve Bruce to look at and think: 'we can be solid and hard to beat, can I go out and get a couple of attacking players who can give us the edge and get us more than one goal and make games comfortable.'"

Bruce will not have been too impressed with his new side's defensive display against in-form Hull City on Saturday, however, as the Owls were brushed aside in a 3-0 loss as Nigel Adkins' Tigers continued their fine form.

The loss meant Wednesday remained in 16th place, but are now 11 points behind Derby County who occupy the final play-off place.

Towards the other end, they sit just nine points ahead of Reading who currently sit in the final spot in the relegation zone.
