Aston Villa have looked like a team destined for promotion in recent weeks, with Dean Smith's side rising up the table at a remarkable pace.

One man that has played a starring role in the recent turnaround in form for Villa is Jack Grealish.

Villa's talisman spent a number of months in the treatment room with a shin injury, but has certainly made up for lost time and has made a notable contribution since returning to the side.

Grealish's good run of form hasn't gone unnoticed though, with the likes of Spurs seemingly the frontrunners to strike a deal for the midfielder according to The Sun.

Former Aston Villa and England striker, Emile Heskey feels that Grealish has a tough decision to make in the summer as he thinks about his future. With quotes handed exclusively to FLW via Bet O Clock, Heskey said:

"Jack Grealish is Aston Villa through and through, but he’ll have a decision to make if they don’t get promoted.

"Gareth Southgate has mentioned players needing to feature in the Premier League, so this will be in Grealish’s mind.

Heskey acknowledged the talent that Grealish has and wouldn't be surprised to see him moving away from Villa Park in the near future.

"He’s a great young player, who I played with when he was only 15, and he stood out then.

"He’s just signed a new contract, so if teams will be looking to get his signature it will have to take a large amount of money. But it’s going to be tough for him to turn down."

But Heskey is confident that his former side can return to the Premier League this season, and feels as though they have more than enough quality in their side to win promotion back into the top-flight.

"However, Aston Villa will be confident of promotion with the players they’ve got. The likes of Tammy Abraham who can get you goals, along with one of the best squads in the league.

"With the football they’re playing and the strength they’ve got, it’s doable."

Grealish will be hoping to continue to play his part when Villa are next in action against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend at Hillsborough.

The Verdict:

Heskey is spot on.

Grealish is a key player for Aston Villa, and it's no surprise to see him being at the heart of their recent turnaround in form.

If Villa are to win promotion this season, then I have no doubt in my mind in saying that Grealish will play a crucial role in that.
