Aston Villa took up the option to recall Andre Green from Portsmouth last week, with the winger thrust back into action at Villa Park as Dean Smith’s side battled to a 2-2 draw with Hull City.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth, the side he departed, were beaten 2-1 by a struggling Oxford side.
Green had netted against Norwich City in the FA Cup recently to help Pompey progress to the fourth round of the competition, but that was perhaps his biggest impact at Fratton Park, with injuries plaguing the young winger.
He managed 12 appearances across all competitions and returned five goals, though, highlighting the impact he could’ve had on their League One promotion push.
Despite not featuring heavily, Stephen Warnock is expecting his departure to impact the South Coast club.
“It probably will (impact them), he’s a good player,” the EFL on Quest pundit exclusively told FLW.
“When you lose one of them players, your form dips and you’re looking around for other players to step up. He was obviously important to Portsmouth, so yeah I think it’ll be a miss.”
Despite the loss of the 20-year-old winger, Warnock still expects Kenny Jackett to guide Portsmouth back into the Championship, as they look to re-climb the footballing ladder.
When asked if promotion was still on the cards, Warnock continued: “I think they will, I think they’ve got enough.
“Playing at Fratton Park, which is a difficult place to go, and with Kenny Jackett’s sort of nous within the league and understanding of the league, I think they’ll go up.”
Pompey now take a break from League One action because of the FA Cup fixture with Peterborough next weekend, but a clash with Luton Town awaits them on January 29, which could be massive in the promotion race.
