Aston Villa have really perked up under Dean Smith since his arrival and you can sense that there is a renewed sense of optimism at the club right now.

The Villans have been scoring for fun under the former Brentford manager and it looks as though he has made the right call to leave Griffin Park for the Midlands side.

That said, we caught up with EFL on Quest expert Sue Smith to grab her thoughts on whether his decision was paying off:

"100%. When it first come about that he was going to be the new manager you wondered with a new set of players and a new team whether he was going to be able to implement that style that he has but he has done, hasn’t he!

"It’s such a short space of time that he has been there but you can see from the way they play football he has already had an impact and Aston Villa fans are loving it.

"He’s getting the best out of the players. Tammy Abraham is on fire – just look at the game against Nottingham Forest.

"He looks a player in confident mood right now and that is down to a manager that is allowing them to play their way of playing.

"He’s given them freedom to be attacking players and it looks like they are enjoying their football now which it didn’t look like when Steve Bruce was at the club towards the end of his spell.

"It’s a great move for him with him being a boyhood fan as well and so he’ll be desperately wanting to see them progress and they’re looking really good at the moment."
