Derby County have emerged as potential contenders to complete a deadline day deal for Patrick Roberts, sources have exclusively told Football League World.

FLW understand that the player would be keen on a move should the Rams solidify their interest with a loan offer.

The 23-year-old, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough from Manchester City, has endured a frustrating season at the Riverside Stadium after failing to establish himself as a first team regular under Neil Warnock.

Roberts has largely been limited to appearances off the bench with the player making just five starts since returning to the club.

With Wayne Rooney keen to add more offensive quality to his squad Roberts has emerged as a player of interest.

However with a matter of hours remaining in the window is remains to be seen whether a formal offer will be made to bring the player to Pride Park on loan.

For Middlesbrough to agree to let the player go, much will depend on their incoming activity before the 11pm deadline.

FLW exclusively revealed last week that the club would allow Roberts to leave the club if they could find a suitable replacement, and with Sky Sports' reporter Ben Ransom linking the club linked with a move for Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, it could pave the way for the Man City man to end his Middlesbrough misery.
