Lincoln City remain on the hunt for a new manager after seeing the Cowley brothers leave the club for Championship strugglers Huddersfield Town last week.

The Imps will be hoping to carry on the fine work that the managerial duo began with their next appointment, but getting it right is going to be no mean feat given how ingrained the former set-up was in both the club and the community.

It's an exciting job for the right person, but it also needs to be offered to the perfect candidate as, at the same time, a lot will be riding on their shoulders.

For EFL pundit Dean Ashton, it's a job you want to give to a manager that is capable of evolution rather than revolution, and he dropped in a recently free League Two boss' name as someone he felt might get a look.

He told Football League World exclusively:

"I think with the job that the Cowleys have done you don't want to change too much because what they have built there and the players that they have signed work.

"You want to get in a manager that will continue that great work, who that is will be down to the board. It wouldn't actually surprise me if Sol Campbell's name was in there or do they go down the tried and tested route? That's the dilemma that they've got."

Campbell is an interesting call and one that would generate plenty of interest.

He did a fine job on a shoestring with Macclesfield Town so, with Lincoln's better budget, he might well be able to get some joy.

Whether that's the route the Imps decide to go down, though, remains to be seen.
