Queens Park Rangers are currently hunting their latest manager after dismissing Steve McClaren, with a host of names having been linked with the role.

One man who was revealed early on as a candidate is current Charlton boss Lee Bowyer. He's been in charge at the Valley for little over a year, but has taken the Addicks to within touching distance of the top two.

A play-off place is assured, but the hunt for an automatic promotion spot was derailed this weekend by Oxford, although they could still make it with a freak run of results.

Despite not quite making the top two, Quest TV pundit Dean Ashton believes the former Leeds man is well-equipped to be a success in the second-tier.

“I do think Lee Bowyer can step up to the Championship. I think he’s done an incredible job to be honest," he exclusively revealed to FLW.

“There’s been a lot of off-field issues and discontent between the fans and the owners. They’ve lost their leading scorer too in Karlan Grant. With all of these things combined and automatic promotion not mathematically out of the question, he’s done a great job."

Ashton also believes the image of Bowyer the player has been well and truly banished after his spell in charge at the Valley.

“He’s very driven too. People have seen him as a player as very hot headed, but he’s a lot calmer than people give him credit for and he’s very much a football person. I think he could do great in the Championship.”

Whilst they could still make the top two on points, it would take defeats for Barnsley, two wins for them and a fourteen goal swing for an automatic spot.

However, with their recent form and the 4-0 destruction of Scunthorpe fresh in their minds, nobody would relish a trip to the Valley in the play-off semi-finals.
