Birmingham City's season looks likely to end with them in a lowly position, but that doesn't tell the full story of a remarkable journey.

They've been battered from pillar to post off the pitch, hit with sanctions for breaching FFP regulations and briefly threatened with relegation.

Despite the trouble signing new players, Garry Monk has got them playing good football and before the points deduction, they looked likely to launch an astonishing play-off assault.

That's in no small part to Che Adams, the former Sheffield United striker attracting interest from the Premier League, with Everton thought to be right at the front of the queue, as reported by The Sun on Sunday (24/03/19, page 59)

EFL pundit Dean Ashton believes that Adams has matured this season, making him a strong prospect for a top flight switch.

“I think with Che Adams, noticeably his physique, has changed and his goalscoring ability has improved this season as well," he exclusively told FLW

“Garry Monk has hit the nail on the head in interviews when he speaks of his maturity. He’s identified how much more he does for the team, his work rate, how he holds the ball up, but also I’m looking at his runs and asking: 'Can he finish? Is he calm?'"

Ashton believes those questions have been answered, but that any move for the 22-goal striker would come with risks attached.

“The Premier League is a big step up though, so taking any player who hasn’t played there is a bit of a gamble.”

Adams has 34 goals from 85 starts for the Blues since joining from Sheffield United in 2016.
