Sunderland left a lot of their transfer business late in the January window but you'd imagine that they'll be happy with what they managed to achieve.

In the end, the likes of Kazaiah Sterling and Will Grigg arrived at the club to fill the Josh Maja void and fans will hope they can fire them up.

In light of Sterling's move, then, we spoke to Dean Ashton - EFL on Quest pundit and a man who knows how important it is to play as a young forward - and he is feeling positive about the deal:

"It is the most important thing to get minutes.

"I played in League One in the second or third season of my career with Crewe and it was invaluable.

"Playing against seasoned veterans of the divisions with real guile and craft in the way they defend is something he won’t have experienced.

"Sunderland’s a fantastic club to be at and there’ll be pressures that come with that but what a great place to get involved and try and make a name for yourself.

"He’s done well for his parent club and he’s just got to go there and show what he can do. If he does that, as we saw with Josh Maja, then he could become a top player with lots of confidence."
