Coventry City look likely to be playing their matches away from their home city next season after the club failed to reach an agreement with the owners of their current home.

They've been displaced from the Ricoh Arena before, having been forced to move to Sixfields, Northampton. A spell away again looks likely as the controversial argument between SISU and Wasps rages on.

At the centre of the furore are a football club doing very well, battling at the right end of the League One table, and Quest TV pundit Dean Ashton thinks the current situation is sad not only for the fans, but the players too.

“It’ll be horrible for Coventry. Not only for the supporters, but for the players too," he said exclusively to Football League World.

“The Ricoh Arena is a fantastic place to play football, I played there myself and as a player you would want that to be your home ground.

"It’s clear under Mark Robins they’ve got a good thing going on the pitch, it will be horrible if that’s ruined by events off the pitch."

He questioned the strength of the support, being forced to travel elsewhere for 'home' fixtures. Burton Albion have been mentioned as one possible location, something that could erode their fanbase.

“You have to wonder how many supporters will turn up if they have to always travel away and it could be horrible for everyone involved. It’ll be a huge shame considering how well Mark Robins has done since coming into the club.”

Coventry play their final game at the Ricoh this weekend, hosting Shrewsbury. They conclude their season with a trip to Doncaster Rovers, before entering into an unknown future.
