Football League pundit Dean Ashton says that he still expects Barnsley to win promotion despite losing star man Brad Potts to Preston North End this month.

Potts had been crucial to the Tykes promotion bid in the opening half of the season, scoring six goals and assisting five more in 22 games, but Daniel Stendel will have to make do without him for the remainder of the campaign.

"When I look down at Leagues One and Two I think this period of the season is really difficult because you've got people trying to go after your best players and this is just one of those cases," the EFL on Quest pundit exclusively told Football League World.

"But I think they've got enough.

"They've got [Mamadou] Thiam who's been scoring goals, Cauley Woodrow has now signed permanently from Fulham and can get you goals as well so I think, looking at what they've got in the squad, they'd be fine.

"I'm sure they would have known that this could have arisen so I'm sure they will be looking at options to bring in as well."

With 26 matches played in League One this season, Stendel's side sit fifth in the League One table, four points behind Luton Town, who currently occupy second place, but with a game in hand over the Hatters.

An impressive 3-0 win against Bradford City got the Tykes off to a good start to life without Potts and they host Burton Albion next weekend.
