Leeds United have slipped away from the automatic promotion hunt in the Championship, with Sheffield United holding a three point advantage as well as a much better goal difference.

A tough Easter saw them beaten twice, by Brentford and Wigan, which makes the play-offs a real possibility for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

It would be a disappointing end to a promising season, but finishing in the top six does afford them the chance of a play-off place and possibly a big day out at Wembley.

If they were to go up to the Premier League via that method, they would need reinforcements to make themselves a serious prospect.

Quest TV pundit Dean Ashton believes that one area they'd need to strengthen is in the centre of defence, where one player concerns him in particular.

“I think they’d need another centre back if they were to go up," he said, speaking exclusively to Football League World.

“I really rate Liam Cooper, but I’ve always had question marks over Pontus Jansson and whether he can step up to the Premier League.

“They got a new goalkeeper in Casilla, but long term they might want to look at that as well."

He also identifies the lack of an out and out goal scorer as another hinderance to their future progress.

“Kemar Roofe is a very good striker, but that’s the one thing they’ve struggled with. They need that player who can put the ball in the back of the net regularly, all the teams at the top of the Championship have that player.

"Leeds just haven’t quite got that centre forward who can change a team."

Leeds host Aston Villa this weekend, before concluding their season with a trip to Ipswich Town, already relegated to League One.
