The race for a top six spot in the Championship has been as exciting as ever this season, with Aston Villa the in-form side that nobody would want to face.

They equalled a club-record for consecutive wins this weekend, cementing their place in the play-offs after a season which had previously threatened to fade away before Christmas.

They dallied with mid table obscurity for much of the campaign, but Dean Smith's side have found the right method at the right time, with Jack Grealish's return acting as a catalyst for an astonishing run of form.

Quest TV pundit Dean Ashton believes they've got to be marked out as favourites for a Premier League spot via the play-offs.

“Aston Villa have been incredible recently. I knew when Jack Grealish came back it would give them confidence, but I didn’t know just how much of a boost it would give the rest of the team," he said, speaking exclusively to FLW.

“They look pretty unstoppable. Nobody would want to play them at the moment."

Whilst Ashton is aware that anyone finishing in sixth could have momentum behind them, he'd be more than surprised if Dean Smith didn't get top flight football next season, continuing: “We’ve got to wait to see who sneaks into six place and what momentum they bring, but I’d be pretty surprised if Aston Villa don’t get promoted.”

Villa are now assured of their top six spot, courtesy of Bristol City and Derby having to play each other in the run-in.
