The international break is over and clubs up and down the country in the Championship are gearing up for a return to action.

There are some big stories set to unfurl, too, and it certainly looks as though Aston Villa are going to be one of the sides to watch in the race for the top six.

Some of their players had varying international breaks, though, with the likes of John McGinn losing to Kazakhstan whilst Conor Hourihane and Glenn Whelan excelled for Ireland.

Can such differing experiences have an impact on club form, then? We asked former striker Dean Ashton for his take and he told us exclusively...

"No, I don't think so.

"I really do feel as though players think it is something totally different. Obviously, it can provide a bit of escapism for players especially if you're struggling - I think that's probably the case.

"But if your team is doing well week in, week out and then you go away I don't think it is going to affect you at all.

"And, to be honest, if you're struggling down at the bottom if anything it can be a bit of a release and if anything it provides the chance for you to clear your head before you go back to your club."
