Sheffield Wednesday’s latest managerial era got off to a winning start with them beating Huddersfield Town 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Owls and the Terriers were both unveiling new managers in the respective dugouts, with the away side and Garry Monk beating the home team and the Cowley brothers; Danny and Nicky.
A happy enough start for the former Leeds United and Birmingham City manager, then, and it’s going to be interesting to see what sort of job he does with what is an undoubtedly talented Owls squad.
For EFL pundit Dean Ashton, too, it’s a very solid appointment on the Yorkshire side’s behalf.
Speaking to Football League World exclusively, the former West Ham striker was asked whether he felt the appointment was a good one and this was his reply:
“I’ve always been quite a big Garry Monk fan. I think whenever he speaks in interviews he talks a lot of sense. He doesn’t try and beat around the bush and he’s very honest in his opinions and about his teams.
“I think he’s able to play good football like he did at Swansea but also use other styles to get a tune out of what he’s got like he did at Birmingham so I think he’s become one of the hottest managers in the Championship as if any side lost their manager he would be near the top of their list.
“Hopefully, with the decent start they’ve made, he can help continue that.”
