Leeds United might have faltered in their hunt for an automatic promotion spot, but their players have still had a tremendous season.

Some individuals who struggled to make an impression under Paul Heckingbottom have come to the fore, impressing with their performances and development under Marcelo Bielsa.

Some, like Mateusz Klich, have come in from the cold to be key figures. Others, the younger homegrown players, have stepped up and made a real name for themselves too.

Kalvin Phillips is one who has been sensational. He's recently been the subject of transfer rumours, with The Sun on Sunday (14th April 2019, page 61) claiming Southampton were lining up a £20m bid.

Whilst that figure seems high, Quest TV pundit Dean Ashton can see the qualities that a holding midfielder such as Phillips would bring in modern tactical setups.

“Talking about fair value in today’s market is difficult," he exclusively told FLW.

“I really like him. As a holding midfielder player I think he’s in an underrated position. I think he’s been one of the mainstays of the side, not only this season but when they struggled in previous seasons. That type of position is one lots of clubs are looking at."

Whilst he might be an individual who suits the modern game, a sceptical Ashton isn't sold on the suggested valuation of the player, he continued: “Do I think he’s worth £20m? No, but it wouldn’t surprise me if someone was willing to pay that.”

Phillips has played 42 matches for the Whites this season, with one goal and a red card to his name.
