You can’t rule out Birmingham City from this season’s top six race right now, with Garry Monk and his players earning a fine 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
A side with great balance, they gave their top six chances a shot in the arm in keeping Che Adams at the club despite what was a testing January as clubs swirled.
That said, then, we spoke to EFL on Quest pundit Dean Ashton to grab his thoughts on how important him staying could be…
He said, exclusively to Football League World:
“He’ll be very, very important.
“I think it was no surprise to see that there was interest in him. At the start of the season Lukas Jutkiewicz was taking the headlines and scoring but since Adams has got in and they’ve played as a two he’s been outstanding.
“I did the game against Norwich and I felt he showed some real class, some more maturity in his play and he was making some good runs.
“He’s so important to Birmingham and I’m really pleased they held firm and said there’s no way he’s leaving because they know how important he is if they want to push to the end of the season.
“Players’ heads can be turned when there’s interest but I don’t actually see him as that type of character.”
