Former Norwich City and West Ham United striker Dean Ashton believes that Marcelo Bielsa's belief in youth is behind Leeds United's current transfer inaction.

The Whites opened up a four-point lead at the top of the Championship over the weekend, but still possess one of the division's smallest squads, leading many fans to call for new arrivals. But Ashton believes the Argentinian would rather give youth a chance.

"In the game against Derby he had four youth team players in the team and four on the bench," the EFL pundit exclusively told Football League World.

"So maybe he is looking at them and thinking 'actually we have got enough' and at the moment who are we to argue?

"The results are still going well, Jack Clarke was man of the match against Derby. He sees them day in day out so maybe he feels it wouldn't be fair on them to bring in other players."

Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Aapo Halme, Tom Pearce and Jamie Shackleton, as well as Clarke, are all recent youth graduates to have been frequently and successfully used by Bielsa in the first team this season.

Goals from Kemar Roofe and Jack Harrison gave the Whites a comfortable 2-0 victory against Frank Lampard's side at Elland Road, completely outclassing their fellow promotion hopefuls for 90 minutes.

With Norwich City dropping points away to West Brom, Bielsa's side were able to increase their lead at the top of the Championship table and their chances of promotion at the same time.
