David Prutton is predicting a 2-1 defeat for Portsmouth in the South Coast derby against Southampton in the Carabao Cup tonight.

Pompey reached the League One play-offs last season but have made a slow start to their new campaign and are without a win in their last five league matches.

Kenny Jackett's side suffered a 1-0 defeat at Wycombe at the weekend, but they must now turn their attention to the Carabao Cup and the visit of the arch-rivals Southampton.

It is the first meeting between the two sides in over seven years, since a thrilling 2-2 draw at St Mary's in the Championship in April 2012.

Portsmouth have suffered two relegations and a promotion since the two sides last met, while Southampton have established themselves as a Premier League side, but the fixture still means as much to the supporters.

Pompey booked their place in the third round with a 3-0 win over Birmingham and a 2-0 win at QPR and will be looking to continue their cup run with a win against their arch-rivals this evening.

Meanwhile, Southampton booked their place in the third round with a 1-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage and are currently 13th in the Premier League table after taking seven points from their opening six league matches.

The game at Fratton Park tonight will be in front of the Sky Sports cameras and pundit Prutton has exclusively told Football League World that he is predicting a 2-1 win for the visitors.

Pompey are unbeaten in their last four matches against Southampton, but Prutton is predicting that their run will come to an end tonight.
