After a hugely impressive start to life in the Sky Bet Championship, a big decision awaits league leaders Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls' pre-season preparations were thrown into limbo when Steve Bruce parted company with the club, in order to become the new manager of Premier League side Newcastle United.

It was undoubtedly a massive blow for Wednesday given the impact that the 58-year-old made after a disastrous start under Jos Luhukay last season, but caretaker boss Lee Bullen has done much more than just steering the ship at Hillsborough.

After four league games, Wednesday have picked up nine points, defeating Luton Town by a goal to nil on Tuesday night to put themselves at the top of the table for the time being.

It remains to be seen whether Bullen is rewarded with the managerial role on a permanent basis following their magnificent start to proceedings, with plenty of Owls fans still divided on whether they need a more experienced option for the long-term.

Football League World Chief Editor Sam Rourke exclusively caught up with former Owls midfielder David Prutton, who offered his own thoughts on what step Wednesday should take next.

He told us: "It depends what their ambitions are. They made the play-off semi-finals and final in recent memory, but they've had to cut the costs accordingly in regards to the pay structure and letting players go that are on huge contracts.

"Whether they're in a period where Chansiri's looking to give it to someone who can take the club to the next level, which would involve serious investment, or whether they are looking to hire someone like Lee who is a relatively safe pair of hands.

"Having worked with Bully, I know he's a very good coach and a very honest and straight-forward fella. The other side, although we talk about these big jobs in the Championship, would someone such as himself be willing to put his head above the parapet.

"He's had a good career so far after playing, managing and developing younger players, but sometimes after five bad games you get the sack and can't get back in again."

Wednesday travel to Preston North End next weekend, with the Yorkshire club looking to make it four wins out of five in the Championship.
