Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has exclusively suggested to FLW Chief Editor Sam Rourke, that Charlton Athletic’s addition of striker Tomer Hemed indicates the club may be setting their sights high this season.

The Addicks were promoted via the League One play-offs last season and have made a fast start in the Championship, with seven points from three games.

Hemed joined earlier this week after Premier League side Brighton agreed to cancel his contract.

The 32-year-old signed a 12-month contract with the club and is the 14th new player to arrive at the Valley this summer.

The Israel international has 35 goals in 108 Championship appearances and should add to some well-needed experience to Lee Bowyer’s forward line, with Lyle Taylor, Chuks Aneke and Macauley Bonne having just six Championship appearances between them.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World Chief Editor Sam Rourke, Prutton provided his verdict on the Addick’s latest signing.

He said: “Physically, he is a player that can certainly occupy a defence.

“Maybe look at him upfront with Taylor, that could be quite a decent looking forward line. I think a player of his age will still feel that he needs to prove himself after a relatively quiet year last year.

“I think from Charlton’s point of view, financially I don’t know where they sit with regards to picking players up and being able to sign players but he fits the mould of perhaps what Lee (Bowyer) wants, that bit of nouse and experience domestically and internationally.

“It is perhaps a sign that Charlton have got sights set on something bigger than just consolidation.”

Charlton will be looking to extend their unbeaten start in the league as they face Nottingham Forest at the Valley this evening.
