David Prutton has admitted Daniel Ayala would be a player that suits Leeds United, underlining the experience that the Middlesbrough centre-back has as something which would appeal to the Elland Road management.

Leeds are currently third in the Championship table and looking to go one better in the division’s promotion race under Marcelo Bielsa this term.

And, TEAMtalk have linked them with a move for Ayala as they look ahead to the January transfer window, with Boro possibly cashing in on the 29-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer.

The Whites have the best defence in the Championship as things stand, having conceded only nine goals, with Liam Cooper and Ben White impressing at centre-back.

However, Prutton, who was speaking in an exclusive interview with Football League World’s Chief Editor Sam Rourke, believes someone like Ayala would be a good addition to the squad.

He said: “Ben White has done tremendously well, Liam Cooper has had his injury concerns, but I think Coops has been a great servant to Leeds.

"This isn’t me trying to get anyone out of the side, but I think competition from a player such as that (Ayala) would be extremely healthy.”

Ayala reached the play-off final with Boro in 2015, as well as helping them win automatic promotion in 2016, alongside playing 14 Premier League games under Aitor Karanka.

To Prutton, that experience of the top of the Championship table could be invaluable to the Whites.

He continued: “Given how he understands the top end of the division and how to get out of it, I think that would be something that the management (at Leeds) would look at.

“It doesn’t strike me as something that would be beyond the realms of possibility.”

Ayala and Boro meet Leeds later this month on November 30th.
