Former Ipswich Town midfielder David Norris has said he believes that Tractor Boys boss Paul Lambert is the right man for the job.

The Town have made a strong start to life in League One after they were relegated from the Championship last season.

Lambert’s side are unbeaten in the league and are currently fifth with eight points from four games.

The Scottish manager took over in October last year with the Tractor Boys at the bottom of the Championship and was unable to steer them to safety.

Despite the relegation, Lambert remained at the club and has got his team firing in the third tier of English football.

The 50-year-old has managed in the top four divisions of English Football, including spells in the Premier League with Norwich City, Aston Villa, and Stoke City.

Lambert’s time at Ipswich’s rivals Norwich could stand him in good stead for his current role as he earned promotion with the Canaries by winning the League One title in 2010.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World Chief Editor Sam Rourke, Norris, who made over 100 appearances for the Tractor Boys, indicated that he had confidence in Lambert.

Asked if he felt the Scotsman was the right man for the job, he said: “Yeah. He has been there and done it. He has bags of experience.

“I think he is but it is difficult these days with managers. If it is the right club at the right time then they might do well but then they might struggle somewhere else.

“I think sometimes if you can get someone who is tried and tested, who has a bit of experience without being too far gone then you have got every chance.”
