The Football League is back this weekend with a full set of fixtures from the Championship, League One and League Two.

You can catch all of these games on Quest TV - the new home of the Football League highlights.

Ahead of the upcoming League Two campaign, FLW writer Jay Williams caught up with host Colin Murray and pundits Dean Ashton and Ian Holloway to find out who they thought were the most likely to win promotion to League One.

Speaking at the Quest TV's launch of the new EFL highlights show, Murray said: “I think Lincoln will go up this year. I have MK Dons going up automatically, but there are so many variables.”

MK Dons were relegated last season but have recruited strongly this summer after appointing Paul Tisdale as their new manager, while Lincoln City came close to winning back-to-back promotions, finishing in the play-off zone but losing out to Tisdale's Exeter City over two legs.

Ashton, formerly of League Two side Crewe Alexandra, also believes the Imps are in with a strong shout of promotion under the guidance of Danny Cowley and his brother.

The ex-England striker said: “It’s hard not to be taken along with the Cowley brothers at Lincoln and what they’ve done there. I can see them doing well this season now they’ve really managed to settle that team and have got everyone pulling in the right direction.”

Ashton also believes Notts County - another defeat play-off side - will bounce back and kick on next year.

He added: “Kevin Nolan has learnt from one of the best in Sam Allardyce. I think they’ll do really well. David Vaughan brings great experience in midfield, along with Jon Stead and Shola Ameobi both signing new deals.

"Duffy’s come in and he’s got experience. They are mixing players who have a point to prove with players they’ve already got.”

Ashton also offered an outside bit, predicting that Forest Green Rovers will compete for promotion after surviving the drop in their first ever Football League campaign.

The former Norwich City and West Ham United forward said: “Forest Green would be my dark horses. They stayed up last season, they have confidence from that.

"Christian Doidge scored 20 goals last season, they’ve got Ruben Reid scoring so they have goals there and if they can shore things up defensively, I’d expect Forest Green to be a surprise.”
