Scunthorpe United are keeping a close eye on Sheffield Wednesday youngster Osaze Urhoghide ahead of the January transfer window, a source close to the club has exclusively revealed to Football League World's Chief Editor Sam Rourke.

The defender has only been with the Owls since the summer of 2019, but has seemingly made a good impression on the League Two side whilst featuring for the Sheffield Wednesday Under-23's side this term.

The 19-year-old was previously part of AFC Wimbledon's academy setup, but left the club upon the expiration of his contract, before joining the Owls on a trial basis ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Urhoghide is yet to feature for the Sheffield Wednesday first team though, although a source close to Football League World has revealed that the club have been impressed with what they have seen from the defender, as he trains regularly with the first team.

But with competition for places high in Garry Monk's side this season, the Owls are believed to want to loan Urhoghide out to further his development in senior football.

They're currently sat fifth in the Championship table, and will be keen to consolidate their position inside the play-off places as this year's campaign progresses.

It is believed that Scunthorpe United are keen to sign Urhoghide on a loan deal for the remainder of this year's campaign, as they look to build on a recent upturn in form.

The Iron are currently sat 13th in the League Two table, and will be keen to keep themselves clear of the relegation zone in the fourth tier after dropping into League Two last term after a dismal start to this season.
