Charlton Athletic are considering a summer move for Sheffield Wednesday defender Chey Dunkley, Football League World understands.

The 30-year-old, who featured 21 times in League One for the Yorkshire outfit last time out, is currently being viewed as a defensive option at The Valley as Ben Garner looks to shape his squad following his arrival from Swindon Town.

The experienced defender climbed the English Football pyramid after starting his senior career with Kidderminster Harriers, joining Oxford United and then Wigan Athletic, before arriving at Hillsborough in the summer of 2020.

As per Sheffield Wednesday's confirmed retained list for the 2022/23 campaign, Dunkley is set to depart the Yorkshire club next week.

Early into the summer transfer window, Charlton are showing some interest in the 30-year-old, as it remains to be seen if other options arise before the start of the new campaign.

Garner will be hoping to assemble a strong squad at The Valley to challenge at the top end of League One next season, with Dunkley a seeming option at this stage.
