Burnley are unlikely to now launch a fresh move for Middlesbrough centre-back Dael Fry despite several previous attempts, a source close to the Clarets has exclusively confirmed to Football League World’s Chief Editor Sam Rourke.
The 22-year-old is one of Middlesbrough’s most prized assets, and was a major target of the Clarets last summer and in January with the Premier League side making two bids, which were both subsequently rejected.
Finances are tight as a result of the current global situation and the source has revealed that Fry’s price-tag is simply too much as it stands, with it unlikely that Sean Dyche will pursue a move.
Fry has made 27 appearances in the Championship for the club, in what has turned out to be an incredibly underwhelming season with them mainly battling in the lower echelons of the division all season.
As it stands, Boro occupy 19th spot in the Championship table and only sit a mere two points clear of the relegation zone.
