Blackpool are eyeing a move for Rotherham United midfielder Dan Barlaser, Football League World can exclusively reveal.

Barlaser was a key figure as the Millers secured promotion back to the Championship last season and looks set to be central to their hopes of staying up in 2021/22 – though it seems they may have a job on their hands keeping hold of him.

Football League World has exclusively learned that Blackpool are now eyeing a move for the Rotherham midfielder as we head into the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

The Seasiders missed out on a move for Oxford United's Cameron Brannagan earlier this month and they've now switched focus to another of League One's top midfield operators from 2021/22.

Barlaser's ability to control matches has been on show throughout his Rotherham career but he stepped his game up a level last season by increasing his productivity in the final third – finishing with 10 goals and nine assists.

The 25-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Rotherham and indicated in June that he had no intention of leaving the club before the end of his deal but that stance may well be tested before the end of the month.

Barlaser joined the Millers from Newcastle United permanently in October 2020 and the Magpies will be due 50% of any future sale (Transfermarkt).
