Birmingham City are expecting to lose Ivan Sanchez this summer with the winger set to be part of a mass exodus of players at St Andrew's, sources have told Football League World.

The Blues are in dire straits right now in the Championship, with reports towards the back end of the weekend seemingly confirming that Aitor Karanka was set to part company with Blues amid this ongoing struggle on-field.

As that situation develops, it is also becoming apparent that Birmingham are going to be preparing for a summer of change in the playing department too.

A source has told Football League World that there looks set to be something of an exodus in the summer with regard to the playing squad. In terms of Sanchez, he looks set to be one player certainly heading for the exit door at St Andrew's, with European interest bubbling away in the 28-year-old.

Sanchez only arrived in the Second City back in the summer of 2020, signing a three-year deal with Birmingham, who also had the option of taking that into a fourth season.

However, the winger has struggled to truly light up Birmingham's season in the Championship, scoring twice and assisting five times after signing on a free transfer from Elche.

The Spaniard has featured in 35 of Birmingham's 36 Championship fixtures this season, including getting through 54 minutes of Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Bristol City.

That result has left Birmingham hovering dangerously above the bottom three in the Championship, with Karanka on the brink of losing his job.
