Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End, Birmingham City and Bristol City are all trying to sign Tony Watt as he continues to stall on signing a new deal with Motherwell, Football League World understands.

Watt's deal with Motherwell is running down and it was first reported by the Scottish Sun that talks over a new deal were appearing to go nowhere.

Football League World understands that what Motherwell can offer the forward isn't close to what's on offer in the EFL.

As a result, Blackburn, Preston, Birmingham and Bristol City are all trying to sign the 27-year-old heading into 2022.

Watt has scored nine goals in 18 appearances in the Scottish Premiership this season, whilst he's also scored once in the League Cup.

Little over 12 months ago, he was playing Europa League football with Motherwell too, scoring goals against Glentoran and Coleraine.

Watt started his career with Celtic and has played for three EFL clubs to date.

He was on the books with Charlton Athletic between 2015 and 2017, making 56 appearances and scoring 10 goals. The Addicks, though, granted him permission to move out on loan twice in 2015/16, with Watt joining Cardiff City and then Blackburn.

During his time at Ewood Park, Watt made 11 appearances and scored twice.

Blackburn are seemingly in the market to strengthen their attacking options to support Ben Brereton Diaz this winter, with Watt one of two strikers linked.

Yesterday, Football League World revealed that Tony Mowbray's side were winning the race to sign Ryan Hedges from Aberdeen.
