Preston North End look set for a mid-table finish in the Sky Bet Championship and a big summer awaits the Deepdale side.
This year has largely been one to forget with Alex Neil losing his job because of it and it remains to be seen just what avenue they head down in the summer as they try to get themselves back up near the play-off places next year.
Indeed, it’s going to be interesting to see just who might be at the reins for the club in terms of the manager’s role, with a number of names to have been touted but none really looking that close as yet.
Of course, that will likely intensify when the season has come to a close and, for Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry, there’s every chance that Nicky Butt could be the right man for the job.
In an exclusive interview with Football League World, Fry suggested that Butt’s work at Manchester United – in part looking at player recruitment – could help him in the Preston job if he was to end up there, as they look to rebuild this summer.
“I think a lot of players will be leaving Preston. So I think Nicky Butt, who’s been helping United in recruitment for the last nine years, would be an ideal guy to go in there and recruit the type of players that will put Preston North End challenging for honours. That’s my personal opinion.”
Interesting points from Fry, we’ll just have to see whether Butt is who Preston go for.
