Leeds United began their 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship in fine fashion on Sunday, as they comfortably defeated Lee Johnson's Bristol City at Ashton Gate, winning 3-1.

It was a classy performance that will have undoubtedly sent a warning to the rest of the league, especially with other promotion challengers in Fulham, Cardiff and Nottingham Forest all losing on the opening weekend.

It was perhaps a surprise to see Marcelo Bielsa's side dismantle the Robins with such ease, with Bristol City a team firmly vying for a top six spot at the very least this season.

A sublime opener from Pablo Hernandez set the tone for the Yorkshire club, and they soon went into a 3-0 lead after goals from Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison put the game out of reach for Bristol City - Andreas Weimann added a late consolation but it wasn't enough for a comeback.

Football League World Chief Editor Sam Rourke exclusively caught up with ex-Leeds player Andy Couzens to get his take on Sunday's impressive display, with the former Whites man saying: "It was positive, from start to finish we dominated and we looked like we have got over last year's massive disappointment.

"I thought there might have been a bit of hangover but it didn't seem to be the case, we sold Jansson who was one of the big players from last year, but we didn't miss him on Sunday.

"We started the season well last year, and we've started the season well this year, Bristol City is a tough place to go and we've picked up a great three points with a good performance as well.

One player in particular seemed to catch Couzens' eye, with centre-back Ben White enjoying a stellar competitive debut for Leeds at Ashton Gate, with Couzens saying: "Ben White was fantastic, very calm on the ball, he looked commanding and was good in the air, he wants to play it out from the back, there was times when he and Cooper really had to defend properly and they did really well. His distribution was also fantastic.

"With Jansson leaving, Bielsa has clearly identified White as the man who can replace him and after the performance on Sunday, you can safely say he's picked a good one, he was top class from start to finish."
