League One side Shrewsbury are eyeing a move for highly-rated Wolves youngster Ryan Giles, as reported by the Shropshire Star.

The 19-year-old made his full Wolves debut against the Shrews in the FA Cup last season and is Telford-born, just a short drive down the M54 from the New Meadow.

Sam Ricketts is thought to be pursuing a season-long loan deal for the versatile attacker, who can play on the wing or up front.

He impressed during a brief loan spell with Telford last season, scoring twice in nine matches and helping them avoid the drop in the National League North.

It's thought he could be a part of Nuno Santo's pre-season squad after recently representing the club in the soccer sevens tournament over in Hong Kong.

Shrews boss Ricketts is facing up to his first pre-season as the boss of Salop, having left Wrexham to take up the position following the early dismissal of John Askey.

The Verdict

Giles is looking to be an exciting young player, but he needs senior football to develop. Shrewsbury is a short drive from Wolverhampton and he wouldn't be suffering too much upheaval by joining Sam Rickett's side.

League One football has done the world of good for young players in the past, Luke Thomas thrived at Coventry City this season and it might be wise for Wolves to put some faith in Giles to excel in the senior game.
