West Bromwich Albion are in advanced talks with free agent midfielder Okay Yokuslu over a return to the Championship club, according to journalist Ekren Konur

The 28-year-old is a popular figure amongst The Hawthorns faithful after a strong loan spell during the 2019/20 campaign and is a free agent after mutually agreeing to cancel his contract with Celta Vigo earlier in the summer.

Reports this week suggested that Albion had taken action over a potential reunion and it appears their pursuit of him is progressing well.

Konur has now reported that talks between the Baggies and the defensive midfielder over a second spell at the West Midlands club are now in advanced stages.

The club have also been linked with Leicester City's Hamza Choudhury but it is said that he is a lower priority target now a move they're pushing for Yokuslu.

The Verdict

It appears Albion's pursuit of the 28-year-old is progressing, which is exciting news because he would be a fantastic signing.

The defensive midfielder has spent the majority his career in European top divisions – joining Albion while they were a Premier League club while making more than 200 combined appearances in the Turkish Super Lig and La Liga – but it seems he may be open to moving to the Championship.

A 39-cap Turkey international, Yokuslu was really impressive during his 2019/20 loan spell with West Brom and will add some more steel to a midfield that has plenty of technical players but still needs strengthening.

His career has stalled a little since his time at The Hawthorns, which is perhaps why he's understood to be open to lowering his wage demands.
