QPR will begin construction on their new training ground as early as next month, according to a report by the Evening Standard.

The Championship club have been looking to move to a new training ground for several years and currently share facilities at the Imperial College Sports Ground in Harlington.

The club's new training ground will bring first-team and academy facilities together, costing around £30million and will include 11 grass pitches, three cricket squares, changing rooms and access to an indoor 3G pitch.

The report states that initial plans had been for the new training ground to be ready for the start of the 2013/14 season, but planning permission and other obstacles delayed that.

Meanwhile, the club are still searching for a new manager after Steve McClaren was sacked over three weeks ago after less than a year in charge at Loftus Road.

The R's are currently 17th in the Championship table, eight points above the relegation zone, after the weekend's 4-0 win over Swansea City.

The Verdict

This is very encouraging news for QPR, as a new training ground represents a major step forward for the football club.

It's something that the club have been wanting for a long time and for it to be so close to happening has to be viewed as exciting news.
