Leeds United are lining up a friendly against Manchester United in Australia as part of their pre-season preparations for next season.

The Yorkshire Evening Post revealed that Australian media are reporting the Whites will face the Red Devils on Wednesday July 17.

They add that it will be one of two games for Marcelo Bielsa's side, with a game against A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers also planned.

However, the chance to play against their bitter rivals will certainly be the clash that catches the eye.

The two sides haven't met since 2011 when the Premier League side ran out 3-0 winners at Elland Road, but Leeds do have fond memories of this fixture.

Prior to that, a Jermaine Beckford goal secured a memorable FA Cup win for the Yorkshire side at Old Trafford at a time when Leeds were in League One.

Of course, everyone connected to Leeds will hope that this rivalry will be played out in the top-flight next season, with Bielsa's side currently third in the Championship and pushing for promotion.

The Verdict

This will be something for the fans to look forward too, even if it is only a friendly.

Obviously, it won't be played with the same intensity as a normal game but it's still a clash between rivals and is more exciting than your standard pre-season encounters.

It will also help the Whites raise their profile around the globe as a game against Manchester United will always attract attention.
