In the week when Aston Villa are likely to be appointing their new manager after the sacking of Steve Bruce, the under-23s did their future prospects no harm with an 8-0 thrashing of Bristol City in the Premier League Cup.

Callum O'Hare was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick from midfield and he took to Twitter after the game to give his thoughts on the match.

"What a performance from the boys✨ 8-0 win & a hat-trick????," he said.

The home side found themselves 2-0 up early on as Corey Blackett-Taylor and Jordan Cox both scored in the opening 20 minutes.

O'Hare then scored twice in quick succession himself to give the home side an emphatic 4-0 half-time lead.

They did not slow down after the break either and found themselves 5-0 up with O'Hare completing his hat-trick just after the hour mark.

Harvey Knibbs scored a late brace for Delaney's side and Dimitri Sea capped off the rout late on to secure a remarkable 8-0 win.

The Verdict

O'Hare looks all set to follow in the footsteps of a certain Mr Jack Grealish at Villa Park in the future and he even wears his socks in the same style as him.

But the 20-year-old clearly has an abundance of talent and it will be up to whoever moves into the Villa dugout to nurture that in a first-team environment.

He is clearly enjoying his time at the club but will be desperate to push on after being on the fringes of the first-team in the past 18 months.
