It has recently been announced that Premier League clubs have voted in favour of resuming contact training in the near future.

This is another step in the right direction, as competitive action edges closer to returning to the sporting calendar.

Off-the-field events had previously brought a temporary halt to fixtures across the country, with no scheduled return date being finalised by the relevant authorities as of yet.

This will be positive news for clubs in the EFL as well, with the Championship in particular looking to get back the season back underway at the earliest of opportunities.

Leeds United are currently sat top of the second tier standings, and are seven points clear of third-placed Fulham with nine matches remaining in this year's campaign.

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, former Sunderland and West Brom forward Kevin Phillips felt that Marcelo Bielsa's squad will be excited by the recent update from the Premier League.

"If I was a Leeds player, yes I would be so encouraged and so excited.

"Just to get back onto the training ground, get near your teammates, have the banter and then to get the go-ahead for full-contact training is so encouraging."

Phillips went on to to reveal that there is 'light at the end of the tunnel' for clubs, with the off-the-field crisis rightfully bringing the season to a temporary halt.

"Let’s hope they are not too far behind voting for that in the Championship.

"They still need to be vigilant but to hear that after the two or three months that we have had – everyone will be really excited. It is light at the end of the tunnel."

The Verdict:

They'll be itching to get back into full contact training, that's for sure.

It's good to see the Leeds squad returning to training earlier this week, as you would imagine that the morale amongst the players will be benefitted after training from home in recent weeks.

Marcelo Bielsa's side have been the team to beat for much of this season, and I just can't see any other team standing in their way as they target promotion into the Premier League.
