Sky Bet Championship side Stoke City have joined the likes of Sunderland and Preston North End in the race to sign Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson.

Reports from Football Insider claim that the Potters are keen admirers of the 21-year old, who has endured a mightily impressive season for the League Two side.

The academy graduate has made 52 appearances in all competitions this season, and was named in the League Two Team of the Season as a result of his solid performances for the Latics.

Here, we discuss whether he would be a good signing for Stoke...

George Harbey

"I think Stoke would be a good move for Edmundson, and I think he would be an excellent signing for the Potters.

"I have seen him play on more than one occasion this season, and he's really impressed me with his powerful presence and ability to play out from the back."

"Jones is likely to have a good knowledge on the lower leagues after his time with Luton Town, and it's no surprise that he is a fan of Edmundson."

"It would be an excellent signing for Stoke, in my view."

Ben Lang

"This would be a good signing with the future in mind for Stoke, who are in need of a rebuild.

"Edmundson has had a successful season in League Two and looks set for an exciting career, but Stoke must make sure they also have other options for the short term.

"It would be a gamble to rely solely on Edmundson, as he will need to step up two whole divisions at a young age."

Chris Gallagher

"He's the type of player they should be targeting.

"Stoke need a major overhaul in the summer and it's good to see Jones is targeting young, hungry players.

"Obviously, this is a big step up for Edmundson but he has ability and I think he will become a good Championship defender in the years to come."

Toby Wilding

"This would be a good signing for Stoke.

"With many expecting an overhaul at The Potters following an underwhelming first season back in the Championship, and the recruitment of a promising young full back such as Edmundson would certainly lift the mood around the bet365."
