Charlton Athletic are set to complete the signing of free-agent Adam Matthews on a one-year deal, according to reports from the South London Press.

The Wales international is still on the lookout for a new club after being let go by Sunderland at the end of last season, amid reports that he would have to take a pay-cut if he were to extend his stay at the Stadium of Light.

The 27-year-old made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Black Cats season, but is now reportedly set to sign for the Addicks on a one-year deal.

Lee Bowyer is still keen to address the right-hand side of his defence, having sold Anfernee Dijksteel to Middlesbrough for a reported fee of £2m earlier on in the summer.

The Addicks have had former West Bromwich Albion defender Tyrone Mears on trial, but they have now seemingly switched their attention to Matthews.
