Middlesbrough picked up only their second league win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Reading at the weekend.

Jonathan Woodgate's side endured a frustrating opening month of the campaign, picking up only one win from their first six league games and scoring only one goal at home.

But they got back to winning ways at the weekend, defeating Jose Gomes' side by a goal to nil thanks to Marvin Johnson's strike on the hour mark.

Woodgate's men had to be patient in their quest for three points, with the Royals dominating the ball and creating far more chances.

But they were made to rue their lack of cutting edge up top, as Boro claimed an invaluable a home win at the Riverside.

Midfielder Paddy McNair also put in another standout performance for the Teesside club in the centre of the park - the former Sunderland man having some nice touches in midfield as well as providing real defensive steel.
