Football League World's West Brom fan pundit Warren Bishop has expressed his excitement at the potential signing of versatile Rotherham United man Semi Ajayi.

Alan Nixon of The Sun reported on Wednesday evening that the Baggies were looking to do a deal with the Millers to bring the 25-year-old in and Bishop believes it would be an excellent move.

"I believe the signing of Semi Ajayi would be an excellent and shrewd one," the regular punter told Football League World.

"He predominantly played in the centre of midfield for Rotherham and was a standout player despite being relegated.

"I could see him, however, being played more at centre-back for us as a replacement for [Craig] Dawson but I still think he would be ideal.

"He is a 6 ft 4 dominating figure that would be great to sure up the defence and build a good partnership with [Ahmed] Hegazi whilst also being another source of goals for us."

Last season saw Ajayi net eight times in all competitions for Paul Warne's side, playing as both a centre-back and defensive midfielder, as they were relegated straight back to League One.

He made the permanent move from Cardiff City to the New York Stadium back in the summer of 2017 but, two years later, it looks like he could be on the move again.

Despite having not played towards the top of the Championship before, with the sale of Craig Dawson to Watford going through this summer, Bishop still believes that Ajayi could become a permanent fixture under Bilic.

"If he plays the way he did at Rotherham there is no reason why he cannot be a regular in our team," he said.

"I feel he is a better player than Kyle Bartley.

"I heard that the fee Rotherham are looking for is £2.5 million which I think is an absolute steal for someone of his quality and I think if Albion can get this one over the line, it would be one of the best deals they have done for some time."
