Football League World's Stoke City fan pundit Andrew Barnett says he is desperate to see midfielder Giannelli Imbula leave the club this summer following recent reports of an imminent departure.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri of RMC Sport reported that discussions were underway with Belgian giants Club Brugge over a transfer of around £5.45million and Barnett cannot wait to see him go.

"Cashing in now is exactly what Stoke need to do," the regular punter told Football League World.

"Even if it results in losing a vast amount of cash.

"For too long our club has been surrounded by players who have earned a fortune for doing next to nothing while walking around with massive egos and shocking attitudes.

"If we can get a decent fee back to mitigate some of the losses we will benefit massively from saved wages and a better environment for all the players."

Imbula made the move to Stoke from Porto at the end of the 2016 January transfer window for just over £20million but has gone on to make just 28 appearances for the club.

The past two seasons have seen him shipped out on loan to Toulouse and Rayo Vallecano and it has become clear that he is not a part of Nathan Jones' plans at the Bet365.

But with the club standing to make a loss of around £15million on the 26-year-old, can this really be seen as a good deal?

Barnett believes it can.

"From a financial point of view the club stand to lose a packet," he said.

"However, in a world where player power is king, to get any sort of money for the likes of Imbula would be a bonus.

"He doesn’t want to play for the club and we currently waste more and more money in wages whilst his value gets even lower. We need to sell now and move on."

With seven new faces already arriving at the club during the transfer window, it has been a busy time for the Potters.

But Barnett is still keen to see any fee received from Imbula put towards strengthening the squad even further.

"I still think we need one or two more players to finalise 'Nathan Jones’ Stoke City' and would like the money to be reinvested in another defensive midfielder and an out-right striker such as Dwight Gayle," he said.

"This, I believe, would be the cherry on the cake."
