Fulham have been linked with a move for out-of-contract Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Newcastle United and West Ham United have both shown an interest but the Whites are now following the player closely in what is an evolving situation.

But would he be a good signing for Fulham? And could the deal happen?

True or false - Fulham have scored over 100 league goals this season

Jesse Lingard would be a fantastic signing for Fulham if they could pull this one off.

His time at Manchester United is clearly over, but he has shown during his loan spell at West Ham United recently that he is still a fantastic Premier League player.

So much so that this one actually seems a little bit unrealistic given that Lingard is likely to have offers from more established Premier League clubs due to that West Ham spell.

Nevertheless, Fulham should certainly make enquiries and try to get this one done if they believe they can. He would be a very good addition to Marco Silva’s side this summer.

Lingard has already moved to the English capital before with his spell at West Ham so there’s every chance this deal could go through.

However, you would think the Manchester United player would want to join a more established top-tier side because he faces the prospect of moving on in 12 months if the Cottagers are relegated again.

Despite this, he should have confidence that the likes of him, Harry Wilson, Aleksandar Mitrovic and other potential new signings can provide them with the firepower needed to give themselves the best possible chance of remaining in the division.

This is why a move cannot be ruled out, though he is likely to get offers from elsewhere and that could mean Marco Silva’s men miss out.

That would be a shame for the Cottagers – because he is an established top-tier player and exactly the sort of player they should be targeting in their quest to remain in the top tier for the long term.

This would be a very good signing for Fulham if they managed to pull it off.

While things haven’t worked out for Lingard at Manchester United this season, his form on loan at West Ham last year showed he is still capable of making a major impact in the Premier League if the circumstances are right for him.

As a result, he could be a big asset for Fulham were they to bring him to Craven Cottage, and this would no doubt be a statement signing from the club on their return to the top-flight.

With Lingard’s time at Old Trafford coming to an end, there is certainly a chance of Fulham making this happen, especially when you consider the fact that he did thrive in London with the Hammers, which could make a return to the capital appealing for the player himself.

You also feel that with Fulham seemingly looking at some high profile and quality signings, there may be a belief that next season can be better than their previous ones in the top-flight, and that would make a move more tempting for someone such as Lingard.

As a result, you feel that this is one that cannot entirely be ruled out at this moment in time.
